Designed for students who have completed the basic puppet theatre course. The course will centre on developing the foundations of directing and design and delving deeper into the reflective and cultural principles of contemporary puppet theatre: the unique values of interpretation through this medium, the potentials and challenges of working in a representational medium, and the transformation of content through imagery. We will deal with thematic development, the formulation of research questions, and the process of work in character development, imagery and unique language. We will examine the transition from the personal origins of a piece to universal contexts, expressions in the language of action, dramaturgy, visual imagery, and the creation of coherence in working within many different parameters.
